Authors’ Vacay Thoughts

Delia Latham ~ What are you doing this summer? Any interesting plans?

I’ll spend a portion of it in California visiting family. And yes, I plan to  make a special point of going to the coast—probably Pismo Beach. The ocean is one of the things I miss most about California since moving to Oklahoma.

Joanne Troppello ~ Okay, admit it…do you ever “work” on vacation? You know, check your email and blog and get some writing in?

I try not to “work” but I usually end up checking my email. My husband is the big factor in trying to get me to relax, which is nice. I work from home, so it’s hard to “leave my work at the office.” So when I go on vacation, working on my writing and marketing my work is so natural for me that it’s not really work. I don’t mind doing some of it on vacation.

Anne K. Albert ~ What’s your favorite roller coaster ride or do you not like them at all?

Me? On a roller coaster ride? Nope. Ain’t ever gonna happen. Not after my first and last ride when I was about 12 or 13. My best friend’s mother took us to an amusement park. After I staggered off the roller coaster, the lady commented that I looked “a little green around the gills”. I never forgot that feeling and vowed never to go again. Unfortunately, my brother-in-law convinced me to go on Space Mountain as an adult. Big mistake. I was so upset I burst into tears the second the ride ended! What a wimp, huh?

Stacy Juba ~ What’s your favorite roller coaster ride or do you not like them at all?  I like Big Thunder Mountain and Splash Mountain at Disney World, and I like flume rides, but that’s about it.

Heather Haven ~ What are you doing this summer? Any interesting plans?

Norman is a rock and roll singer with a pretty popular band, so he has a lot of gigs coming up this summer. I have some book signings to attend to. All in all, a great summer!

Killarney Sheffield ~ When you go on vacation, do you like to relax or be more active and sightsee?

We used to milk cows 3 times a day when we lived in quesnel (14 hr work days) so definitely relax was the only thing we wanted to do. The minute we unpacked the van into the cabin it was like “Oh my God I’m suddenly so relaxed now.”

Annette Snyder ~ What’s your favorite summer time drink?

Whenever I go on vacation, I sample the local wines.  In Hawaii, we had a bottle of pineapple wine each morning for breakfast!  I usually buy two bottles of local wine to bring home.  One for my wine rack and one for my aunt—that’s how I pay her for maintaining my website.

Elaine Marie Cooper ~ What do you like most about the summer time?

The beautiful weather and my perennial garden.

Julie Lence ~ Okay, admit it…do you ever “work” on vacation? You know, check your email and blog and get some writing in?

Always. I’m forever checking email and Facebook. If we go to our neighbor’s motel, I’m usually working on a scene while the hubby and kiddie spend the morning fishing.

Elaine Cantrell ~ Do you plant a vegetable garden in the summer? If you do, what veggies do you grow?

No vegetables.  I plant flowers.  You should see my second story window boxes.  I plant petunias that cascade over the edge of the boxes and enthrall everyone who passes by.

Wend Petzler ~ Lemonade vs. iced tea: which is the winner for you?

Ice tea, no sugar and no lemon. I drink gallons of it.

Gabrielle Bisset ~ Okay, admit it…do you ever “work” on vacation? You know, check your email and blog and get some writing in?

I’m all about vacation when I go on vacation.  I don’t call anyone (except my pet sitter to check on my cats), and I don’t check email.  For me, vacation is a time to escape from the world, and I do my best to get lost in the fun.

Cher Green ~ When you go on vacation, do you like to relax or be more active and sightsee?

If I were to go on vacation, this would depend on where I went, but I would think I’d be going to sightsee. I’ve always loved the idea of traveling and hope one day to do some.

JoAnn Durgin ~ Okay, admit it…do you ever “work” on vacation? You know, check your email and blog and get some writing in?

No, considering the last time I had a vacation the computer had barely been invented. Okay, to be fair, I remember checking e-mail from a hotel lobby. I think it was in Chicago a number of years ago. It’s ridiculous how addicted we can get to our electronic gadgets, isn’t it?

I had a fun time finding all the photos and reading about my fellow writers. We had a lot of hits here on these pages – somewhere around 100, so even though there weren’t many comments, people saw. I probably should have reminded about the giveaways more. That’s always my downfall – I forget SOMETHING. Thanks for including me in this great idea.

Hi Kay, thanks so much for hosting the Summer Blog Party. I just wanted to congratulate the winner of an e-book copy of “Defending Glory”, the first book of my Piedmont Island Trilogy series, is Krystal Larsen.

    Happy reading, Krystal!
